The main acoustic design of the architectural theater of the National Grand Theater is the French CSTB Institute, and the School of Architecture of Tsinghua University, as a domestic acoustic cooperation unit, assists CSTB in completing the deepening design, theoretical calculation, experimental research and other work.

The roof and wall of the concert hall in the acoustic design of the theater adopts GRG (reinforced fiber gypsum molding board). The average thickness is 4cm.

The GRG on the ceiling is decorated with seemingly disorderly grooves, and the GRG on the side wall has undulating surface for diffusing and reflecting sound. The sound reflected from the plane is similar to a mirror, which will affect the sound quality due to the strong reflection of local sound. The diffuse reflection is similar to the frosted black glass, and the sound reflection is more uniform and soft. In addition, the thick GRG board can effectively prevent low-frequency absorption, enhance the low-frequency reverberation time in the hall, and make the bass effect (such as organ, cello, etc.) more shocking and infectious.
